Constitutional reforms: 513 amendments presented

513.450 amendments have been presented to the bill which contains the constitutional reforms and in particular that of the reform of the Senate which the dem minority and the oppositions, despite the two favorable votes already cast on the text by the Chamber and the Senate in the first reading, would like to cancel by introducing the direct election in proportion of future senators. The proposed amendments were filed in the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Senate. Palazzo Madama announces it on Twitter.

The vast majority of amendments (510) were presented by the League. Forza Italia and Sel follow with over a thousand amendments each. But the most politically sensitive ones were signed by 28 senators from the Democratic Party minority.

On the admissibility or otherwise of the amendments which, eliminating everything, would like to reintroduce the direct election of senators, a dangerous institutional clash is looming between the president of the Constitutional Affairs Commission, Anna Finocchiaro, who, according to the regulation, has already said she is against and the president of the Senate, Pietro Grasso, sponsored at the time by Pierluigi Bersani, who instead left a window open, criticized by the former Head of State Giorgio Napolitano in the columns of the "Corriere della sera".

The singular anti-reform axis between the Pd minority, the Lega, Forza Italia, the Sun and the M5S is convinced that he has the numbers on his side but Renzi shows confidence: "The majority for the government is there and will never be lacking". It is not excluded that Silvio Berlusconi will also come to Renzi's rescue in September, who sees early elections as smoke and mirrors but who knows that if the reform of the Senate gets stuck, recourse to the polls becomes inevitable.
