Senate reform, a shower of amendments in the Chamber: Renzi and Berlusconi close ranks

The time for stonewalling has come. The amendments presented in the Senate to the bill for constitutional reforms, which also contains the revolution of the Assembly of Palazzo Madama, are over 7 thousand. The President of the Chamber, Pietro Grasso, has assured that he will give everyone the opportunity to express themselves. And this means about 42 hours of debate, which will keep the room busy again tomorrow and which will therefore cause the first votes to be postponed to Monday afternoon. In fact, the Senate will be busy from Thursday afternoon and throughout Friday with the first parliamentary conference of the EU semester.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the main parties are trying to close ranks in their own ranks. “If we don't change, we betray ourselves, not just the Italians – said the Premier yesterday Matteo Renzi at the meeting with the parliamentary groups of the Democratic Party -. We must respond faithfully to the last great opportunity that Italians could give to a political party. We are the custodians of the hope of 40% of Italians and this is much greater than our internal divisions, the discussions, who you voted for in the primaries, how much you like the secretary or the group leader”.

As for Silvio Berlusconi, he asked the Forza Italia parliamentarians "not to open the debate, the decision has been made, we must keep the agreements". The pact of the Nazarene must be honored, is the reasoning of the former Knight, because after the European Renzi has the consent to proceed without us and we, by slipping away, risk being in fact irrelevant. A risk, that of the marginalization of Forza Italia, which according to the former prime minister is also run by dividing oneself internally. "In twenty years I have never let you down and I won't do it this time either", commented Berlusconi.

On the M5S front, however, yesterday Beppe Grillo he arrived in Rome for a meeting with the senators of the Movement. Meeting that had as its theme the Boschi bill, under discussion in these days in Palazzo Madama, and the new electoral law, in view of the appointment scheduled for the week between grillini and Pd. And speaking of the meeting it was Grillo himself who confirmed what was an indiscretion: "Thursday - he said - let's see what to do".
