School reform, the vote slips again

The final vote on school reform is postponed until tomorrow. The discussion in the classroom will continue throughout the day today after yesterday's start afternoon with the intervention of the rapporteur Maria Coscia, PD group leader in the Culture Commission of the Chamber, who explained how «with the arrival of the school reform in the Chamber, the turning point is now around the corner. It is a provision that has the objective of strengthening the autonomy of the institutes - continued Maria Coscia - of strongly contrasting the phenomena of abandonment and dispersion as well as the social, cultural and territorial inequalities which are unfortunately still very present in the our country and, at the same time, to give more training to students, guarantee the right to study and envisage a major plan for the safety and modernization of school buildings".

This morning the deputies resumed the examination of the bill with the protest of the group leader of Sel Arturo Scotto who stigmatized the admission to the vote of “only” 60 amendments out of the 140 previously envisaged.

In all likelihood, therefore, given the vast majority enjoyed by the PD in the Chamber, the final go-ahead should arrive tomorrow morning.

Meantime demonstrations also continue against the Good School bill. After the protests of recent days and yesterday's trade union mobilization in Piazza Montecitorio, this afternoon the deputies of "Left is change", a minority member of the Democratic Party, will hold a press conference in the Chamber in which they will present their proposals on the reform in the presence of the former Minister of Education Luigi Berlinguer. The approval of the bill "represents not the final moment but the beginning of a process that will have its decisive phase precisely in the implementation of the individual decrees". he says «Left is change».
