Reform cooperative banks, the odyssey continues

Everyone agrees on redesigning the governance structures of the popular companies. But the round of "informal hearings" continues in the Senate. If the need for reform is shared by the operators, the problem to solve is the "what to do". Meanwhile, times are ticking away.

The discussion of the bill on the reform of cooperative banks, which is being examined by the Senate Finance Committee, has been postponed to next week. In fact, the select committee meets to discuss tax measures in favor of working women. Most likely, the provision on cooperative banks will be on the agenda of the parliamentary body as early as Tuesday, despite the Development decree that 'holds court' in Palazzo Madama.

In any case, work will resume not on examining the bill, but by continuing the round of informal hearings. After having listened to representatives of Bank of Italy and of the national association of popular banks (Assopopolari), it should be the turn of the representatives of ABI, the Italian banking association.

So far, underline from Palazzo Madama, all those listened to "it would seem that they intend to reform the cooperative banks", even if "the knot to untie remains that of figuring out what to do". In short, there seems to be an intention to restore the sector - moreover also expressed by the legislator - but it is not yet clear how. Before intervening, in essence, "we need to see what the scenarios" that can be outlined are.
