Special waste: companies in Pesaro Urbino towards a sole manager with Herambiente

An innovative agreement, which aims at an efficient and virtuous management of industrial waste, was signed between Confindustria Pesaro Urbino, an association that brings together over 500 companies in the province, and Herambiente, a Hera Group company, national leader in waste treatment and disposal .

It is the first protocol in Italy that provides for waste management at the local economic system level, to the benefit of both the environment and the income statement. Specifically, it is an agreement that Confindustria makes available to member and non-member companies, offering innovative services at advantageous prices.
The companies that enter into the partnership will sign a one-year contract with Herambiente, which will allow for savings of between 5% and 7% compared to market prices. Companies will undergo an initial check-up (then repeated every 12 months), to highlight needs, quantities, costs and regulatory compliance. Herambiente, remaining the sole interlocutor for companies, will undertake to choose suppliers for the transport and treatment of waste in the area, in total transparency and in agreement with Confindustria.

From the studies carried out by the association, the decision to activate a single operator for the management of special waste is the most convenient from an economic point of view. Furthermore, Herambiente, with over 80 recovery and disposal plants and 5,1 million tonnes treated in 2012, is the largest Italian operator in the sector, capable of treating a very vast type of special waste, also classified as hazardous, offering "key" solutions in hand” studied on the basis of the production and commercial needs of each individual reality.

“I am particularly pleased with this agreement – explains Claudio Galli, Herambiente's Chief Executive Officer – It places Herambiente's know-how in the management of special waste at the service of local businesses, waste which, in addition to having a high environmental impact if not treated correctly, they often feed illegal disposal channels, unfortunately one of the most developed and profitable criminal activities for organized crime. Also because, it is worth remembering, special waste represents about two thirds of the total waste produced in Italy”.

Salvatore Giordano, General Manager of Confindustria Pesaro Urbino, comments: "Waste collection represents, on the one hand, a significant cost item within company financial statements and, on the other, an issue that must be managed with care and caution, according to the implications, including criminal ones, that weigh on the waste producer in the event of incorrect management. The agreement with Herambiente guarantees us the achievement of three objectives: strong simplification, because each company will have only one interlocutor for each type of service; maximum security on the legality of operations, because our partner has extremely strict operational and supplier selection procedures; significant economic savings, because by aggregating companies together we create a critical mass and, consequently, we are able to reduce waste management costs".

Estimates speak of a total quantity, to be treated within the agreement, which could exceed 150 tonnes per year, with waste belonging to 150 different categories (CER codes).
