Radioactive waste, the Sogin campaign kicks off today

Nuclear: "Let's write a safer future together". This message opens today the campaign launched by Sogin to inform and sensitize public opinion on the subject of radioactive waste management and on the project for the construction of a National Repository, surface infrastructure where to arrange all this waste, now stored in dozens of temporary warehouses distributed throughout the country. The three-month campaign will be disseminated on the web through the futurosicuro.info portal, as well as commercials, banners and announcements on Google, YouTube, and over 10 websites.

We go from expressions that evoke fear and disinterest, widespread on this issue, to phrases that instead solicit a participatory and proactive approach." This message is enclosed in the slogan "Let's write a safer future together" - explains the public company, 100 % Treasury, in charge of the disposal of decommissioned nuclear sites and the construction of the national surface deposit – which underlines the participatory nature of the process started for the identification of the suitable area to host the National Repository. This process will make it possible to arrive at a shared choice aimed at making all radioactive waste completely safe and, with it, also at closing the nuclear cycle in Italy".

In this regard, on 2 January Sogin delivered the proposal for a Charter of Potentially Suitable Areas to host the National Repository to the ISPRA supervisory authority, in compliance with the deadlines set by the legislation. This Charter, after approval by ISPRA and the competent Ministries, will be made public and a consultation phase will then be launched which will culminate in a National Seminar in which all parties interested in the project will be invited to participate.
