From the dumpster Olympics to connections with the Concordia station in Antarctica: the Bologna-based multiutility takes about 83 students to the heart of environmental issues

Waste, Hera returns to schools with environmental projects for the youngest

The Hera Group still focuses on young people and brings its own back to schools educational initiatives dedicated to the environment. With the project "The Great Machine of the World" and "A Well of Science", the Bologna-based multiutility will support around 83 students from Emilia-Romagna under 18 in 67 courses and activities, new workshops, events and group activities.

Among the new entries of this edition is theInspector Rifiutoni and the "differentiated case", a workshop for the 8-11 age group, which brings to class a character well versed in the circular economy who, with a transparent bin, will try to "shed light" on the world of waste and the importance of separate collection. Furthermore, the classes will be divided into teams and will participate in the "Dumpster Olympics” a challenge where everyone wins: each class will receive a free souvenir poster dedicated to “il Rifiutologo” – the multi-utility app that helps citizens resolve their doubts about separate waste collection – together with the certificate of “differentiation experts”.

On the occasion of the symbolic days of the environment, the green events of The great machine of the world organized in streaming are enriched by meetings with characters such as Massimo Bonfatti, cartoonist known for his experience on Cattivik and Lupo Alberto, Giovanni Caviezel, author of stories and music for the little ones, Roberto Mercadini , actor, writer and youtuber. It starts on February 18, with International Energy Saving Day, to continue with World Water Day on March 22 and Earth Day on April 22.

On the occasion of the year for inclusion, among the novelties of this edition there are two initiatives aimed at lower secondary schools, in collaboration with Work Wide Women. The first workshop aims to encourage reflection on behaviors and habits during a typical school day and on this occasion the interactive game will be launched Diversity@School. A second appointment will instead be dedicated to inclusive language, to make people reflect on the power of words and the importance of developing good linguistic habits.

While "A well of science", the science dissemination project, is back for upper secondary school students. There are 38 scheduled activities, including 6 streaming events with internationally renowned experts and scientists: Luca Mercalli, Telmo Pievani, Stefano Mancuso and Marco Gisotti. Furthermore, for this edition the appointments that will connect students with the Italian-French Concordia station in Antarctica double.

In general, this year's science well program has the theme “What if…? – Causes and effects of an interconnected world”. Beyond the theory, the project aims to help children better understand the world they live in and what to do to improve it. In addition to the activities, there were also 19 interviews by young people with experts such as Mariasole Bianco, oceanographer and popularizer, Vincenzo Balzani, professor of chemistry and popularizer, on energy transition, Sara Roversi, expert in food innovation, on the food of the future, and 4 scientific laboratories on the subject of emissions, waste and water. Confirmed again this year i Peer debate and Web Journal, to help young people unravel the needs of communication and the truth of the facts, with the journalist Marco Merola.
