August is almost over, and it's time for students and families to get ready back to school. As September approaches, Italy prepares to give the start of the new school year 2024-2025. The return to the classroom will not, however, happen simultaneously in all regions: each territory has its own calendar, established on the basis of regional decisions that take into account local needs and specific contexts. The new school year will begin on September 5, 2024 and will end between June 6 and 10. Let's now look at the dates by region.
School calendar 2024-2025: Bolzano opens, September 16th is the last date to return
The new school year 2024-2025 will start on September 5th for the students of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, who will be the first to return to the classroom. On the same date, children in nursery schools in Lombardy will also begin their activities. A few days later, the 9 September, it will be the turn of the students of the Autonomous Province of Trento.
The September 11th It will be an important date for six Italian regions, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Marche, Piedmont, Umbria, Valle d'Aosta and Veneto, where thousands of students will return to class. The September 12th, it will be the turn of Campania, Lombardy, Molise and Sardinia.
The last to return to school will be students from Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Liguria, Puglia and Tuscany, the 16 September. With this date, the back-to-school picture will be complete across the country.
School calendar 2024-2025: holidays and long weekends
During the 2024-2025 school year, all Italian schools will remain closed on the occasion of national holidays, regardless of the specificities of the regional calendars. The closures are scheduled for: November 1, 2024 (All Saints' Day), December 8, 2024 (Immaculate Conception), December 25 and 26, 2024 (Christmas and Boxing Day), January 1, 2025 (New Year's Day), January 6, 2025 (Epiphany), April 20 and 21, 2025 (Easter and Easter Monday), April 25, 2025 (Liberation Day), May 1, 2025 (Labor Day), and June 2, 2025 (Republic Day).
In addition to these holidays, the school year will also offer various bridge opportunities, which will allow students and teachers to take short breaks.
