Recycling, Hera anticipates EU goals

On the occasion of the presentation of the “Italy of Recycling 2016” Report, the Hera Group – multi-utility in first place in Italy in the environmental sector for managed waste – confirms its commitment to fostering and promoting the transition to a circular economy, reaching and exceeding the target set in 15 by Brussels on reducing the use of landfills (<2015% by 10) 2030 years in advance. The waste sent to landfills by the multi-utility, in fact, fell to 8,6% last year.

And Hera is also burning other milestones on the European agenda: on the packaging recycling front, in particular, the Group has the 65% target set by the European Union for 2025 has already been achieved. Finally, there is little left to cross the European target on the overall recycling rate of urban waste, set for 2020 at 50%: in 2015, in fact, the multi-utility has already reached 48%.

Furthermore, with separate waste collection rising to 55,4% and the share of separate waste effectively recovered reaching 94,4%, it was possible to generate a family benefit of 27 euros – equal to 11% of the bill – which exceeds the national average (22 euros). To the full advantage of the green economy, in which – also thanks to Hera's commitment – 18 people have been given work, along a supply chain which overall involves 191 recovery plants and has an annual turnover of 10 billion euro.
