Italian researchers in Europe: a 1,35 million tender launched by the Cariplo and Cdp Foundations is underway

It got underway on 28 April a tender worth 1,35 million euros intended for young Italian researchers who have distinguished themselves in the competitions of the “European Research Council”, the body set up by the European Commission to fund talent. Registrations will remain open until 16 June. The initiative is part of a collaboration started by Cariplo Foundation e CDP Foundation. The goal, reads a note, is "to contribute to the development of the national research system by investing in training and human capital", so as to stem the phenomenon of "brain drain".

In detail, the announcement “is addressed to researchers admitted in 2021 to the second evaluation phase of the competitions promoted by ERC, called starting grant e Consolidator Grant – continues the note – Through the bodies that carry out research activities, young talents will have to present a project which allows them to consolidate their skills in order to apply with greater chances of success in subsequent tenders (starting grant, Consolidator Grant o Advanced Grants) managed by the same European body".

The path organized by the two foundations includes “the selection of 15 projects to which a contribution of 90 thousand euros each to finance research activities, training and exchange courses with foreign countries or with various universities on the national territory, positions for scholarship holders to support candidates, scientific publications and other initiatives that can enrich the profiles of researchers", reads the Note.

“Investing in people's talent and potential is the first and most important investment we can make as a country and this is even more evident when we talk about research,” he commented. John Fosti, president of the Cariplo Foundation – For this reason we are very pleased to be able to announce the new edition of this Call, created this year together with the CDP Foundation, dedicated to consolidating the skills of young researchers who wish to compete in the European calls”.

Giovanni Gorno Tempini, President of the Cdp Foundation, added: “Faced with the many challenges awaiting Italy, it is essential to start with young people, focusing on skills and human capital. The collaboration with the Cariplo Foundation falls within this context and places the quality and excellence of Italian universities at the center in order to continue investing in talent so that they can contribute to the country's economic and sustainable growth. With this announcement, we support the development of the entire national research system with the aim of strengthening it also at the European level”.
