Smart electricity grids: new agreement between the Hera Group and Enel's Gridspertise

The modernization of electricity networks from a smart grid perspective. This is the objective of the new collaboration agreement between Gridspertise - the Enel Group company dedicated to the digital transformation of electricity grids - and the Hera Group aimed at digitization of networks through a state-of-the-art integrated system for the collection and measurement of data collected from the electricity and gas distribution networks in a multi-service context. The results of this collaboration, reads a note, may also be of interest to multi-utility companies abroad.

But what are the smart grid? These are precisely electricity distribution networks equipped with intelligent sensors that collect information in real time to rationalize the supply of energy and which arrive from a large number of terminals: users, large nodes, meters, vehicles.

In particular, the agreement provides for the testing of an integrated system of data collected by the gas devices of the Bologna-based multi-utility and by Gridspertise's smart meters for electricity grids. The gas-electricity multiservice integration tests will be carried out in Italy on the network managed by Inrete Distribuzione Energia, Hera's natural gas and electricity distribution company.

The result is a package of network management solutions whose key element is to accelerate the energy transition.

Based on the results of the experimentation, the two companies will evaluate joint participation in future tenders, which will also be held outside Italy, in which the sale of hardware and software solutions for gas and electricity metering will be envisaged. In the future, this collaboration may also be extended to solutions concerning the integrated water cycle, both in terms of metering and water smart grids.

Furthermore, in recent months the Enel Group subsidiary concluded agreements with the Hera Group for the supply of 435.000 smart meters and concentrators, as well as an innovative remote management system that will be used in the trial
