Republicans: Trump crowned in Cleveland

The last-minute twist many believed (or hoped for) didn't happen: Donald Trump is officially the candidate of the Republican Party in the US presidential election on November 8th.

The formal investiture arrived yesterday during the Republican convention in Cleveland. The tycoon has reached the fateful threshold of 1.237 delegates thanks to the delegation from his native New York.

“It is a great burden to be nominated for the Republican candidacy for president of the United States – wrote Trump on Twitter -. I will work hard and never let you down."

And so the New York tycoon, against all odds, has become the real protagonist of this American political season, with his decisive ways and even his verbal excesses against Islam, against Mexican and South American immigrants, against Syrian refugees. Not to mention the controversial sexist and chauvinist stances, which have infuriated many women, and her anti-establishment positions which have put the Republican Party in serious difficulty, effectively opening a deep crisis in the historical formation of the American political right.

At this point, the only thing missing is the formalization of Hillary Clinton's Democratic nomination, expected at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia next week. Then the race for the final challenge will begin.
