Repubblica becomes liberal, De Benedetti founds "Domani"

After the handover of the Gedi group, the Engineer embarks on a new adventure: a new journal positioned on the left will be released in the autumn – It will be both on paper and on the web, director Stefano Feltri.

Repubblica becomes liberal, De Benedetti founds "Domani"

Repubblica and the entire Gedi group passed under the aegis of the Agnelli family, with consequent change of director and liberal turning point for the newspaper founded by Eugenio Scalfari in 1976, but the former publisher Carlo De Benedetti does not stand idly by. In fact, it took the Turin entrepreneur just a little to found a new newspaper, positioned on the left, in the "box" occupied until a few days ago by the editorial universe headed by Repubblica. The new creature is called Domani and was born on Monday 4 May with the constitution in Turin of the homonymous company: the starting capital is 10 million and it is owned by two companies, whose sole shareholder is the 86 year old De Benedetti. The president is Luigi Zanda, who therefore resigned as treasurer of the Democratic Party, while remaining its senator: “Will we be the anti-Republic? Impossible, Repubblica is a unique product,” commented Zanda in Corriere della Sera.

Once the publishing company has been established, it will still be necessary to wait a few months to see the newspaper on newsstands (and online): we talk about it after the summer, in the autumn, and it will be a sheet of 8/16 pages, with an online version, mainly dedicated to current political and economic affairs. The director should be the young Stefano Feltri, former deputy director of Fatto Quotidiano. The board is instead composed of Giovanni Canetta, head of the Family Office of Carlo De Benedetti; Federica Mariani, creator of the Dogliani TV Festival; Massimo Segre, historic accountant close to the family; Virginia Ripa di Meana, daughter of Vittorio who is in turn a former director of the L'Espresso Group; and the Roman criminal lawyer Grazia Volo. The process for setting up the Domani Foundation has also started, which will obviously be chaired by Carlo De Benedetti. The Engineer therefore embarks on a new adventure, after having tried until the end, a few months ago, to keep the majority stake in Gedi, only to be persuaded by the family to sell it to the Agnelli shareholders.
