Renzi: Telecom has been privatized and there is no going back

The Prime Minister seems to rule out the possibility of CDP entering Telecom Italia, specifying: "I'm not answering questions about listed companies, but I'm just saying that in the past, in 1997, the Government chose the path of privatization and therefore a choice". – At Piazza Affari the stock concludes trading in deep red.

Renzi: Telecom has been privatized and there is no going back

Matteo Renzi seems to immediately close the doors to the possible entry of CDP into Telecom Italia with or without Metroweb. After refusing to answer questions about a listed company, the Prime Minister made a sibylline comment which, however, says a lot: "I'm just saying that in the past, the Government, in 1997, chose the path of privatization and therefore a choice has been made".

Words that therefore seem to definitively put an end to the numerous rumors published in recent days by some newspapers according to which Cdp is considering the possibility of entering the shareholding structure of Telecom Italia through Metroweb if the comparison on the industrial plan for ultra-broadband were to give positive results , even if the antitrust problems would not be simple. Even today, the small Telecom shareholders of Asati are pushing for an agreement between CDP and Telecom.

In truth, yesterday afternoon, during the press conference to present the industrial plan of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, the president Claudius Costamagna he had preferred not to say too much, but he had still left the doors open: "We are discussing with Telecom (as with other operators) the industrial plan for the network and only after that will we evaluate any equity interventions or not". Renzi's statements now seem to definitively close the question.

Despite the attempt not to influence the trend of the title on Piazza Affari, investors seem to have understood perfectly the message sent by the Prime Minister. Shares of the telecom group closed trading in deep red, dropping 2,81% to 1,14 points.
