Renzi: "Russia allied against terrorism"

"Russia's role in the UN Security Council can be decisive" in defeating ISIS in Libya. The Prime Minister said so Matteo Renzi, at the conclusion of the meeting in the Kremlin with Vladimir Putin. For his part, the Russian leader said that "the situation has worsened in Libya and Russia supports the efforts of the UN", which today sees the UN envoy Bernardino Leon engaged in talks towards an agreement for the formation of a government of national unity. According to Renzi, Italy and Russia are "different communities but united in the fight against terrorism: I think it is essential that Moscow plays a decisive role".

As for theUkraine, Putin said that Russia counts on the EU, including Italy, to use its influence on Kiev for the application of the Minsk agreements: "The situation remains complicated, but at least the armed operations have ceased, the people dies, the city is not destroyed. There was full agreement on the fact that the parties must respect the agreements reached on February 12 in Minsk to the letter. I am convinced that this opens up the possibility of an all-encompassing and peaceful solution and could lead to direct dialogue between Kiev, Donetsk and Lugansk”, or between the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian separatists.

The Kremlin has confirmed that Putin will visit Expo 2015 in Milan on June 10, on Russia Day at the International Exhibition.
