Renzi replies to the oppositions: "The motion of no confidence in the Government is an own goal"

The Premier replies to the oppositions and in particular to the centre-right after the presentation of the motion of no confidence in the Government for the banking affair: "It's an own goal" - Renzi: "We dismissed Boschi's father" - "Those who speculate on dead makes me sick” – As for the saved banks, “those who defrauded will have to pay”.

Renzi replies to the oppositions: "The motion of no confidence in the Government is an own goal"

“Brunetta presents a motion of no confidence against us? Brunetta has never got one right, he will be wrong again this time. I believe that it will be an own goal for whoever presented the motion, and I'm not saying this to defend a member of the government". So the premier Matteo Renzi he replied yesterday evening, from the Porta a porta drawing room, to the announcement of a motion of no confidence by the centre-right against the Executive. On paper, the numbers are right, which should pass the test without problems.

The no-confidence motion already presented by the 5 Star Movement against the Minister of Reforms, Maria Elena Boschi, also seems destined to fail due to the conflict of interest relating to the case of Banca Etruria, an institution in which her father held the position of vice president and his brother was employed as manager. “We sent home the entire Board of Directors including Boschi's father – continued Renzi -. The board of directors was sanctioned and Boschi's father paid a fine. The law is the same for everyone, the time for ad personam laws is over. Minister Boschi's father was appointed vice president of Banca Etruria in 2014 by the shareholders and was dismissed 8 months later by the government. The conflict of interest should have favoritism, we have sent home the entire Board. The Board of Banca Etruria was sanctioned by the Bank of Italy and Boschi's father also paid a fine. Boschi herself was also a shareholder, with a small amount, and like others she saw the value set to zero ”.

Regarding Salvini's accusation of being guilty of the suicide of the pensioner from Civitavecchia who lost all his savings in the bankruptcy of Banca Etruria, the Premier replied that "if someone thinks of getting a few more votes by speculating on death, know that he won't have us on this ground. There is a limit and a boundary of human respect and when one enters the terrain of hatred and exploits death it is beyond good and evil. Would I be responsible for the bondholder's death? Am I infamous? When the death of a person is exploited, I say: let's stop first. Italy has the right to a more civil season between the majority and the opposition”.

Finally, as to the banks recently bailed out by the government and the savers who lost everything on subordinated bonds,"whoever cheated will have to pay – said the Premier again -. If there is evidence of a scam, the scammed will have to be compensated, otherwise it will be a different matter and we can't do anything about it according to European rules. There's no need to make many speeches, I'm glad I signed that legislative decree, because in this way we saved 7.200 jobs and one million account holders, and employee salaries. There will be an arbitration that will be accessed by thousands of people. If you have the money in your checking account it is different than if you have it in bonds. Someone was reckless, but surely someone else was scammed. They are people to whom the government can only say one thing: if there has been a scam there will be compensation”.
