Renzi, work plan: single contract and article 18 only from the third year

The mayor of Florence should present the "Plan for work" by the end of January, on the basis of the Boeri-Garibaldi model - For flexible workers, the project provides for the extension of protections (from maternity to sickness), while those who lose their place will be entitled to a universal unemployment benefit in lieu of layoffs

Renzi, work plan: single contract and article 18 only from the third year

Single permanent contract and article 18 valid only from the third year onwards. These are the fundamental points of the program put in place by Matteo Renzi on the most important issue for the centre-left agenda: work. The intentions of the newly elected secretary of the Democratic Party were anticipated today by the newspaper La Repubblica.

The mayor of Florence should present the "Plan for work" by the end of January. The theme of the single contract was inspired by the proposals of economists such as Tito Boeri and Pietro Garibaldi and of the labor lawyer Pietro Ichino.

As for article 18, the most politically sensitive chapter, it is again the Boeri-Garibaldi model that suggests that new hires be excluded from the application of the protections for the first three years. Furthermore, during this period, the entrepreneur would not pay the contributions, which would be paid by the State.

On the other hand, for flexible workers, the project envisages the extension of protection (from maternity to sickness), while those who lose their jobs will be entitled to a universal unemployment benefit (without distinction based on the size of the company) at place of the current redundancy fund (which is granted to one worker out of three).
