Renzi: "Lost 20 years between Berlusconi and anti-Berlusconi"

The Premier at the CL Meeting in Rimini: “The electoral law is the first step in finally being able to govern and not defend oneself against the assaults of the minority or the opposition” – “Migrants? Let's save lives first, then we'll think about how to give these people a future. I am not giving up on centuries of civilization”.

Renzi: "Lost 20 years between Berlusconi and anti-Berlusconi"

“In these twenty years, Italy has transformed the Second Republic into a permanent brawl: Berlusconi and anti-Berlusconi have made politics put the 'pause' button. Today we have to run to bring Italy back to par”. Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said this during his speech at the CL meeting in Rimini.

“It won't be simply with the reforms that Italy will rediscover its identity – he added -, but the reforms are the premise. Italy can play a role in a changing Europe on condition that it changes itself. And the electoral law is the first step in finally being able to govern and not defend oneself against the assaults of the minority or the opposition. It's a revolution."

As for the tax reform, “it's not to get the Premier to find consensus. The reduction of taxes increases the rate of freedom of the country, increases the rate of social justice. They are not inventions taken from a rabbit taken from any top hat, but the only way to allow those who want to do it” and to do so we need to “make Italy simpler”.

Coming to Europe, "when we talk about strategy for the EU perhaps twenty years have been lost - continued Renzi -, when we talk about the Mediterranean we are not talking about the EU border but about the heart of the EU but there hasn't been enough attention of politics in considering the Mediterranean as the heart of the EU debate, one looked cross-eyed. Let's save lives first, then we'll think about how to give these people a future. I am not giving up on centuries of civilization. We will never give in to the parochialism of fear”.
