"Either you remain deputy prime minister, or interior minister". This would be the either-or imposed by Matteo Renzi on Angelino Alfano, who will most likely opt for the interior ministry. The seat of vice premier could therefore go to Stefania Giannini of Civic Choice.
The prime minister in charge and the leader of the new center-right met last night to close the negotiations that will lead to the birth of the new government led by the secretary of the Democratic Party. The outgoing ministers Graziano Delrio, Dario Franceschini (Pd) and Maurizio Lupi (Ncd) also took part in the summit, which ended around one o'clock.
According to a source from the Democratic Party, today Renzi will go up to the Quirinale to dissolve the reserve (ahead of the scheduled time) and illustrate the list of ministers to the Head of State. The new Executive will be presented in the Senate next Monday at 14 pm.
Yesterday, however, a majority meeting took place (in which Renzi did not take part) from which some difficulties emerged regarding the programme, as well as the choice of ministers. There was also talk of the agreement on the new electoral law and the abolition of the Senate: Ncd insists that the reform of the vote enter into force only after the overcoming of the perfect bicameralism.
