Renzi-Merkel, the premier: "Now the turbo to the reforms"

For Renzi, the time has come to "boost the reforms" and finally emerge from economic stagnation, continuing in the direction traced by the Juncker plan and Quantitative Easing, considered the "symbols of an important and significant compromise". For Angela Merkel "the reform plan of the Renzi government is very ambitious and very important and I am sure it will bring results". At the end of the bilateral Germany-Italy summit, the two leaders conclude with a joint press conference at the Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence, in the shadow of Michelangelo's David. And the chancellor spent important words full of confidence in the reforms implemented by the Italian premier.

“I am sure – Merkel declared – that the plan will be carried forward and that it will give excellent results. I believe that some of the Italian reforms, labor and public administration, will soon generate effects. This morning I spoke with German entrepreneurs who work in Italy, all of them say they want to support the reform process and that the first impulses are already there. They told me that now they can hire in Italy”.

Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, who thanked the German chancellor for the bilateral meeting in Florence, placed the spotlight, rather than on economic issues, on "an issue in which Europe has a huge element of strength in the world: the ability to give inspiration and ideals”. “We realized that – continued Renzi in the great march in Paris, because Europe is an idea that must be promoted. Perhaps all of us together must change the narrative of Europe, which is not just a set of codes or bureaucracy. We have to go back to inspiring citizens. Our commitment is total, it is the only way to face the risk of those who would like to destroy the values of Europe”.
