Matteo Renzi's bet on the tax cut on which the prime minister has said he would "gamble everything" must face the obstacle of the European Union. The prime minister, who will meet Hollande in Paris on Saturday and will be in Berlin on Monday to receive Merkel, will fight to convince the two leaders to be more understanding about the cover-ups on his plan.
Renzi, according to what was also confirmed by Minister Pier Carlo Padoan at a press conference, planned to use the 0,4% spending margin between the 3 percent set by Europe and the 2,6 percent estimated by Europe for our country this year. This is over six billion to which should be added the 3 billion billed by Carlo Cottarelli for the spending review and the 2,4 billion from the lower expense for interest on debt due to the lowering of the spread.
“The Italian Government respects all the commitments it has with Europe”, underlined the Prime Minister, in a speech at the conference on “The value of Europe. Growth, employment and rights” in the Chamber. No departure from Brussels' indications, therefore, but – adds Renzi – “the greatest commitment is to change to bring Europe back close to the citizens”.
