Renzi meets Berlusconi in the headquarters of the Democratic Party and speaks of "deep harmony" on the electoral reform

"A very significant step forward" and a "profound harmony between Pd and Silvio Berlusconi on three important points: the reform of Title V of the Constitution, the transformation of the Senate into a Chamber of Autonomies without compensation and without direct elections and the electoral law". This is how Matteo Renzi commented on the result of the "historic" meeting he had in the afternoon with Silvio Berlusconi who went to the headquarters of the Pd at the Nazarene for the first time and which lasted two and a half hours.

In particular on the new electoral law, the secretary of the Democratic Party said that the general agreement has three objectives: to favor governance, to strengthen bipolarity; prevent the blackmail of smaller parties.

Renzi specified that the text of the new electoral law proposal, which in some way follows the temperate Spanish model, will be brought to the examination of the Pd leadership on Monday afternoon but that it is open to the contribution of those who agree.

Upon leaving the headquarters of the Pd Berlusconi, who was accompanied by Gianni Letta, did not comment but then confirmed that the electoral reform has the objective of consolidating the major parties and appreciated the constructive method initiated by Renzi, hoping that on the reform there is a large convergence. Now the word passes to the other political forces, starting with those (NCD, SC and Popolari) who have threatened a government crisis if they find themselves faced with a text that penalizes them. And, in fact, the secretary of the New centre-right, Angelino Alfani polemically recalled that "without us Renzi Berlusconi cannot do electoral reform: they forget to do it without or against us".
Prime Minister Enrico Letta eases tensions, arguing that the Renzi-Berlusconi meeting "is going in the right direction" but recalling that to make the reforms "we need to keep the majority and the opposition together".
