Renzi: “Deficit? I hope to close the deal with the EU today"

Possible agreement on a 0,3% cut in the deficit by playing the card of the 3,4 billion set aside as a reserve by the Treasury.

Renzi: “Deficit? I hope to close the deal with the EU today"

"We really hope to close today, it depends on how much France closes, it depends on what it is negotiating". Prime Minister Matteo Renzi told "Il Messaggero.it" in reference to the negotiations with Brussels on cutting the deficit. Sandro Gozi, undersecretary for European affairs, revealed instead that "the French are negotiating at 0,50%".

Based on these statements, it is possible that Italy will be able to agree with Europe on a 0,3% cut in the deficit, playing the 3,4 billion card set aside as a reserve treasury by the Minister of the Economy, Pier Carlo Padoan.

Just the number one of the Treasury, on the sidelines of the meeting of young people of Confindustria, assured that the Italian response to the letter sent yesterday from Brussels "will be sent quickly, perhaps by today".

The outgoing president of the EU Commission, José Manuel Barroso, had asked for a correction of 0,5-0,7 (between 8 and 11 billion) for Italy. However, the French situation is far worse, considering for the end of 2013 Paris has forecast a 4,4% GDP deficit.
