Renzi-De Magistris: truce on Naples

Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and the mayor of Naples Luigi De Magistris today signed the "Pact for Naples", which provides for the release of 308 million to be allocated to public works in the city. The funds will be used to finance urban regeneration, suburbs, security and mobility works in the Campania capital and in other regional areas.

Thus began the thaw between the Government and the Neapolitan mayor after the controversy over the commissioning of the works for the reclamation of the former iron and steel site of Bagnoli.

"We have shown that we can keep political dialectic, dissent which can also be strong, separate from a correct and effective institutional relationship at the highest levels," said the mayor of Naples. With de Magistris "we have many different ideas from a political point of view, but from an institutional point of view Naples is much bigger than this", explained the premier. Neither Renzi nor De Magistris have referred to Bagnoli.
