Renzi: Athens and the EU two open construction sites

“There are two construction sites open in Athens and Brussels” says the prime minister. “The first concerns Greece which is in a very difficult economic and social situation. The second is Europe, if we stand still it's over"

Europe must change, it must help growth, or it's over. This is how Prime Minister Matteo Renzi comments on the referendum in Greece on Facebook. After explaining that Athens needs a definitive solution to the emergency, Renzi affirms that there is also a second "building site": "The second - even more fascinating and complex, but no longer postponeable - is the building site of Europe. For months – underlines Renzi – we have been insisting on discussing not only austerity and budgets, but growth, infrastructure, common policies on migration, innovation, the environment. In a word: politics, not just parameters. Values, not just numbers. If we stand still, prisoners of regulations and bureaucracies, Europe is over. Rebuilding a different Europe will not be easy, after what has happened in recent years. But this is the right time to try to do it, all together. Italy will do its part”.

“There are two building sites to be tackled quickly in European capitals and in Brussels”, writes the prime minister. “The first concerns Greece, a country which is in a very difficult economic and social situation. Tomorrow's meetings - says Renzi - will have to indicate a definitive way to resolve this emergency ". And one is Europe, which must change. “Italy will do its part”, concludes the prime minister
