Renzi: "Are we going to the elections? It is not so"

“From what I've read, I now see that the title of all that has been said is: 'Now let's go to the elections'. But that's not the case at all." This was specified by the head of government, Matteo Renzi, leaving Palazzo Madama at the end of the debate on his information on the program of the thousand days of government.

Previously, in front of the assembly, the Premier had expressed himself in these terms: “We are not afraid of the vote. We are not afraid to confront the Italians. But Italy needs a wider-ranging challenge today. We need a new electoral law immediately, but not to go to the elections. Some may argue that going to vote would be better. We respect the stance and from a utilitarian point of view it might be a good idea, but we think that the interests of the country come before the needs of a party. Any assessment of the electoral passage must disregard a reasoning that concerns a single party. If the Parliament is in a position to put it in the right gear and carry out the reforms, we undertake to assume a legislative horizon and not a limited horizon, going to vote in 2018".
