A new academic year is about to start and, like every year, the population of non-resident students is busy looking for accommodation in the city where their university is located.

There are about 850 non-resident students in Italy. Those who cannot count on accommodation in student residences will have to dig into their wallets, spending amounts that will have a significant impact on the family budget.

According to an analysis carried out by Immobiliare.it, in Italy you spend on average 400 euros for a single room and 280 for a double bed. But in some cities, prices are not only much higher, but have also increased compared to last year. The increase from 2015 to 2016 was 4% for single rooms and 2% for double beds.

Obviously the price also varies according to the area in which the property is located: the closer you get to the centre, the higher the amount.

But which are the most expensive cities in Italy? Here is the ranking of Immobiliare.it

1) MILAN: 510€ single room – 345€ bed in double;
2) Roma: 440€ single room – 300€ bed in double;
3) FLORENCE: 355€ single room – 250€ bed in double;
4) TURIN: 340€ single room – 235€ bed in double;
5) SIENA: 330€ single room – 240€ bed in double;
6) BOLOGNA: €325 single room – €240 double bed;
7) VENEZIA: 315€ single room – 230€ bed in double;
8) PISA: 315€ single room – 220€ bed in double;
9) NAPLES: 295€ single room – 210€ bed in double;
10) PAVIA: €280 single room – €180 double bed;
11) PADOVA: 270€ single room – 210€ bed in double;
12) BARI: 265€ single room – 180€ bed in double;
13) CATANIA: 200€ single room – 150€ bed in double;
14) PALERMO; €180 single room -€145 double bed.

Utilities costs must be added to the above prices, while condominium costs are included in the calculation.
