Renault, the Ghosn era ends: the manager has resigned

Two months after the Nissan scandal, Carlos Ghosn steps down as CEO of Renault. A step back by the manager from the French carmaker was widely expected because of his detention in Japan for tax fraud. However it has only just arrived.

The French finance minister announced his resignation. Bruno Le Maire, who confirmed that the letter of resignation was received by the Renault board member on Wednesday evening, Philippe Lagayette. The French state is in fact also a shareholder of Renault with a 15% stake.

Ghosn has been accused of not declaring his real wages, having reported lower than real income to the Japanese tax authorities. In recent days, the Tokyo Court rejected his request for release on bail and this would have been a further push to abandon the top management role in Renault. Arrested on November 19, Goshn had faced new charges while in prison and a second arrest warrant.

Now the definitive exit of the now former number one of the alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Motors.
