Italian Luca de meo is the new CEO of Renault: will take office on July XNUMXst. The Board of Directors of the French car manufacturer made it official on Tuesday. In the evening it also arrived the blessing of Bruno Le Maire, Economy Minister of Paris, the same one who in June had blocked the merger of the group with FCA: "The appointment of Luca De Meo at the helm of Renault is excellent news and relaunches the alliance between Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi" .

According to the company president, Jean Dominique Senard, “De Meo is a great strategist and a manager full of vision in a rapidly changing automotive world”.

In October, De Meo's predecessor Thierry Bolloré was sacked due to bad relations with Nissan. The first objective of the Italian manager is his own re-establish the alliance with the Japanese giant, at risk of implosion afterwards Carlos Ghosn's escape from Tokyo to Lebanon.

De Meo had started his career as a manager right at Renault, in 1991. Seven years later he switched to Toyota. Then, in 2002, the landing in Fiat, where from 2004 to 2009 he was one of the “Marchionne Boys”. Finally the sensational move in Volkswagen, where he became head of marketing for Audi, before going to drive the brand Seat until January of this year.

Clotide Delbos will remain in office ad interim until 120 July. De Meo will be the first non-Frenchman to drive Renault in its XNUMX-year history.
