Rehn: good Spain, but unacceptable unemployment

According to the European Commissioner for the Economy, the measures to contain the deficit are appreciable, but the new conservative government of Mariano Rajoy must do more to "combat the high and unacceptable rate" of the unemployed.

Rehn: good Spain, but unacceptable unemployment

"Spain has taken the appropriate measures to achieve its budgetary balance”. The European Commissioner for the Economy said it during the night, Olli Rehn. Mariano Rajoy's government, however, must take steps to "combat the high and unacceptable rate of unemployment“, added Rehn at the end of the Eurogroup meeting in Brussels.

Rajoy's new Conservative executive has launched a vast penalty plan at the end of December, which involves budget cuts of 8,9 billion euros, tax increases of 6,3 billion and an anti-tax evasion plan from which it hopes to recover almost 8,2 billion.
