Region, Assolombarda and Confindustria Lombardia: a new public-private pact on life sciences

A new public-private pact to support the growth of social health system in Lombardia. The agreement was signed between Lombardy region and Lombard businesses – represented by Assolombarda e Lombardy Confindustria – and is aimed at promoting the development of the health ecosystem, from research to the provision of citizen care and assistance services, and also intends to seize the opportunities offered by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Moreover, the PNRR, explains a note, has allocated almost 16,8 billion euros for Lombardy for the strengthening of territorial assistance and 67,1 million euros for the development of integrated home assistance; resources which, on the one hand, can deal with some critical issues affecting the national health system today.

The agreement to promote the development of the health ecosystem

As part of the agreement, the note continues, the companies propose to collaborate, also on the integration of the supply chain between health and social health, including the systemisation of the social and health supply units and the integrated home care activity.

But that's not all: the pact lays the foundations for a collaboration on the side of digital transition of the system with the aim of creating digital and organizational tools that favor a better level of accessibility to services, improving the patient's journey and his experience. The pact also provides for a comparison to activate a regional accreditation process for biobanks regions and their connection to the network, as well as a data warehouse capable of collecting health data and related to research activity for monitoring the competitiveness and quality of the regional system.

Finally, the agreement focuses on a still current problem: the shortage of professionals, which puts the accessibility and quality of health services at risk. A problem that can be tackled with the involvement of the Ministry of Health and professional associations.

"The agreement - underlines the regional councilor for Welfare, Guido Bertolaso – provides for the establishment of transversal working tables on strategic issues for the development of the Regional Health System to promote convergence on common and crucial objectives in the areas of local medicine and accessibility of treatments, digitization, recruiting of healthcare personnel , research and technology, procurement and innovation. It will be a significant opportunity for discussion from which to derive mutual benefits”.

“Lombardy represents a European hub for research in the field of life sciences – added the vice president of Assolombarda with responsibility for Life Sciences, Sergio Dompé -. Lombardy, moreover, is the first region in Italy for the EU contribution to life sciences research and for the number of institutions participating in the programme. Today we have the opportunity to position ourselves as one of the most innovative regions in Europe in the life sciences, guaranteeing a continuous increase in the levels of care and healthcare competence for our citizens”.

“The pact shared with the Region must therefore be framed in the perspective of a permanent dialogue aimed at encouraging innovation in the sector through the sharing of new technologies, services and training programmes, to give life to new forms of assistance which put the patient's health at the center", concluded the president of Confindustria Lombardia, Francesco Buzzella.
