Waste, Rome: Cantone opens an investigation into Ama

The National Anti-Corruption Authority has opened an investigation into the Ama in relation to waste management in Rome. The decision – indirectly announced in recent days by the number one of the Anac, Raffaele Cantone – comes in full swing political controversy around the figure of Paola Muraro, a former Ama consultant who last month was appointed councilor for the environment by the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi.

Meanwhile, today the Rome Environment Commission gave a favorable opinion on the appointment of Alessandro Solidoro as sole director of the Roman waste company: "Ama has in fact already gone bankrupt - commented Daniele Diaco (M5S), president of the commission -, with 600 million euro hole and this is the motivation to take a person expert in companies in crisis. The Romans, in fact, wanted us here to restore it, and the single curriculum that was submitted to you is due to the efficiency of the M5S in responding to the needs of citizens".

Furthermore, today the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Graziano Delrio, during the Agorà broadcast pointed the finger at the Capitoline administration: "It cannot be said, as perhaps the councilor for the environment of the Municipality of Rome did, that in two days the problem of refusals is solved because it means telling lies. Serious work is needed, from educating citizens to separate waste collection to good company organisation, which currently does not exist”.

As for the actual waste emergency, the governor of Lazio, Nicola Zingaretti, said in his report to the Regional Council that "on the basis of needs and separate waste collection and plant engineering, it is not deemed necessary to open a procedure for a new waste-to-energy plant". Yesterday the Minister of the Environment Gian Luca Galletti had supported the need for Lazio to acquire a new plant.
