Assonime's Simple Guide to Constitutional Reform recalls that one of the novelties of the reform submitted to a confirmatory referendum will be the abolition of Cnel, a useless and ineffective body which costs 9 million a year and which is the legacy of a corporate vision of society

Referendum, the reform cancels the useless Cnel: Assonime Guide

The constitutional reform provides for the suppression of the National Council of Economy and Labor (CNEL), envisaged by article 99 of the Constitution as a consultative body of the Chambers and the Government composed of experts and representatives of the productive categories.

This organism it has not been of real use. Today, there are many forms through which Parliament and the Government can dialogue with society and make transparent use of the cognitive contribution of experts and representatives of the productive categories. An ad hoc body, of constitutional relevance, is the legacy of an outdated corporate vision.

Even if Cnel's financing charges have been progressively reduced over time, the abolition of the body eliminates the root of the remaining cost items which no longer appear justified (in the Cnel budget for 2015, revenue from the State was almost 9 million euro). The abrogation of Article 99 of the Constitution would immediate effect, from the moment of entry into force of the constitutional law.
