Citizenship income and pensions, Di Maio counterattacks

The deputy premier replied to the Minister of Economy on the basic income to be made in 2018: "I understand Tria's assessments, but the measure is a priority of the government contract and must be done within 2018. We have convened a table next week".

Citizenship income and pensions, Di Maio counterattacks

“We finally want to abolish the golden pensions which by law will have a ceiling of 4.000/5.000 euros for all those who have not paid a share of contributions which gives them the right to such a high amount. And things change for the better even for those who take the minimum pension, because thanks to the billion that we will save we will be able to increase the minimum pensions".

Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio writes it on his Facebook profile, where he defines the golden pensions financed by "the whole community" as an "injury to those three million Italians who don't even have the money to go shopping, because they are been abandoned by institutions. Let's be clear: those who deserve high pensions for having paid the right contributions have every right to do so, but this summer it will be different for the nabobs at the expense of the State”. Thanks to the timing of the measure, Di Maio writes that "there are no World Cups this summer, but soon we will have something to celebrate: the end of golden pensions and the beginning of a more just Italy".

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Welfare and Economic Development also intervened on the citizen's income, responding indirectly to Minister Tria who from Luxembourg made it clear and straightforward that "for 2018 the games are over: there will only be interventions zero cost” e therefore no flat tax or basic income. "I understand Tria's assessments, but the measure is a priority of the government contract and must be done by 2018. We have convened a table next week".

The objective of the basic income – Di Maio had previously said speaking at the Uil congress – “is not to give someone money to sit on the sofa but to say frankly: you have lost your job – your sector is finished or it has transformed – now a path is required of you to retrain and be reintegrated into new sectors. But while you train and the State invests in you, I'll give you an income and in return give your mayor 8 free working hours every week of public utility".
