Citizenship income, Naples takes twice as much as Rome

There are 1.401.225 applications for citizenship income presented in the period from March to 15 July last; of these, 895.220 were accepted. It is the latest INPS update on the measure to combat poverty launched by the Lega-M5S government.

Scrolling through the numbers, divided Region by Region and city by city, the picture of economic hardship in Italy or perhaps of Italy more prone to a subsidized economy emerges, depending on one's point of view.

In the latest Inps "ranking", Naples is the Italian metropolis that more than any other is benefiting from the basic income with 142.764 applications presented and 100.416 accepted, with a gap of around 40.000 rejected applications. Rome follows with 87.425 applications and 54.202 requests accepted. Followed by Palermo with 63.691 requests and 46.502 requests accepted and Milan with 52.791 requests and 29.565 income granted.

It should be remembered that the INPS figures refer exclusively to requests presented and accepted: these are absolute numbers and not in relation to the population. Bolzano is at the bottom of the rankings with very few requests, while Trento (4.549) has submitted more than Siena (3620).
