Income: how much do ministers, parliamentarians and politicians earn? Here is the ranking

As every year, the annual appointment with has arrived the tax returns of politicians, parliamentarians and ministers and, as per tradition, 2016 also held some surprises. The data comes directly from the Parliament website, which contains the declarations of assets of senators, deputies, ministers, deputy ministers and undersecretaries of the Gentiloni and Renzi governments. Also present on the site are the incomes of treasurers and non-parliamentary leaders of movements, parties and political associations.

And then it turns out that among the ministers, Valeria Fedeli is the one with the highest income, while the lowest is the Minister of Agricultural Policies, Maurizio Martina. THE RANKING OF MINISTERS' INCOME

Even the ranking of ministers' incomes has many surprises in store. Any examples? Piercarlo Padoan, Minister of the Economy is the penultimate on the list with 49.948 euros declared in 2016 compared to 216 in 2014. In second place is instead the Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini, with 148.692 euros followed by the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Anna Finocchiaro, who in 2016 had a taxable income of 144.853 euros. Outside the rankings, but present in the government team until last December 4, is the former Premier Matthew Renzi, which in 2016 declared 103.283 euros, just under 2015 (107.960).

INCOME: PARLIAMENTARIANS AND POLITICIANS

As for the representatives who sit in Parliament, it is impossible not to start from Speakers of the House and Senate. The "battle" was won by Pietro Grasso, with a taxable income of 340.563 euros compared to 144.883 for Laura Boldrini.

Surprise too within the M5S where Beppe Grillo is no longer the richest. In fact, the 2016 tax return of the leader of the pentastellati reads 71.957 euros compared to 355.247 the previous year where, however, the sale of an apartment in Switzerland contributed.

Di Maio and Di Battista? They earn more than their leader with incomes just under 100 euros (98.471 euros).

To the Chamber, among the group leaders, the richest is Giovanni Monchiero of Civici e Innovatori who in 2016 declared a taxable income of 219.964 euros. In second place is the parent company of Forza Italia Renato Brunetta, in 2016 215.342 euros, third Pino Pisicchio, parent company of Misto, who declared a taxable income of 2016 euros in 189.129.
