Income, tax authorities: 50% of taxpayers declare an average of 15 euros

According to data on personal income tax returns published by the Treasury, 5% of taxpayers with the highest incomes hold 22,7% of total income – Self-employed workers have the highest average income, equal to 36.070 euros.

The income of half of Italian taxpayers does not exceed an average of 15.654 euros a year. At the national level, however, the total total declared income is equal to 800 billion euros, while the average income is equal to 19.750 euros (+0,5% compared to the previous year). This is what can be read in the statistics on personal income tax returns published today by the Treasury Finance Department. The data refer to the 2012 tax year.

Also according to the Treasury tables, 5% of taxpayers with the highest incomes hold 22,7% of total income, i.e. a share greater than that held overall by half of the taxpayers with the lowest incomes. On the other hand, 90% of subjects declare a total income of up to 35.819 euros. 

Over 10 million Italiansthey also have zero net tax: these are mainly taxpayers with income levels included in the exemption thresholds, or taxpayers whose gross tax is zeroed with the numerous deductions recognized by our legal system. However, the net personal income tax has an average value of 4.880 euros and is declared by around 31,2 million subjects (75% of total taxpayers).

I self-employed have the highest average income, equal to 36.070 euros, while the average income declared by entrepreneurs is equal to 17.470 euros. That of employees is equal to 20.280 euros, that of pensioners is 15.780 euros and, finally, the average income from shareholdings in partnerships and similar is equal to 15.850 euros.

The comparison with the previous tax year shows an increase in average pension income (+1,7%) and employee income (+1,3%, which becomes +0,3% considering productivity bonuses). On the other hand, all income linked to entrepreneurial and professional activities decreased: business (-8%), self-employment (-14,7%) and participation (-4,9%).
