Recovery, off the task force: Conte-Renzi half cleared

Conte cancels the Recovery task force and with Renzi's Italia Viva the Christmas truce kicks in bigger ones and Conte's surge on TV against the delegation of the secret services and the use of the Mes health care make the final agreement still very difficult

Recovery, off the task force: Conte-Renzi half cleared

Italia Viva rejoices: “The Recovery Task Force is gone“, announced the head of delegation Teresa Bellanova after the two-hour meeting without Matteo Renzi at Palazzo Chigi with the premier Giuseppe Conte. It is said that this is not enough to avoid the government crisis in January, but it is undoubtedly a step forward in the verification and a half clearing between Conte and Renzi. A kind of Christmas truce, even if Conte's last interview on TV in which the premier reiterated his No to the Mes health care and his No to the delegation for the secret services have raised tension again.

The control room, therefore, will not be there and the ministers will manage the distribution of the over 200 billion euros that the Recovery Plan will guarantee to Italy if our country is able to present projects in Brussels that are up to their task.

However, there are still major obstacles on the way to an agreement between Conte and Renzi. The first concerns the very distribution of the 209 billion and the annexed request from Italia Viva to use it immediately the 37 billion of the health month of which the Five Stars (with the support of the premier) do not want to hear about, for exclusively prejudicial and ideological reasons. “Not using the 37 billion of the Mes is a crime”, hisses Italia Viva. In fact, that of the health Mes is not a small problem, both because health care, as the Minister of Health Speranza himself acknowledged, absolutely needs new resources to deal with the pandemic, and because all the forces of the coalition - with the exception of the Five Stars - are absolutely in favor of the use of the health Mes, but in Parliament the grillini and the opposition (excluding Forza Italia) oppose it.

Italia Viva's request to use the funds of the Mes immediately lays bare the divisions and contradictions of the majority and, if an agreement is not found by the Befana, it could send the Government into crisis. Then there are two other issues on the table for the confrontation between Renzi and Conte which concern, on the one hand, the renunciation of solitary management of the secret services by the premier e the unresolved knot of the prescription which Minister Bonafede had promised in Parliament to review to avoid mistrust. These are no trivial issues: that's why, despite yesterday's half cleared up and the Christmas truce, it's too early to tell if the government crisis will be avoided and how. Without forgetting that Conte always hangs over him the shadow of the appointment of two deputy prime ministers, a Pd and a Five Star Di Maio trend, which would look a lot like a commissioner.
