Recovery Plan: 5G only 0,5% of resources

The figure has progressively decreased over the months - According to sector operators, 10 billion would be needed just to finish the infrastructure - A survey commissioned by the Vodafone Institute

Recovery Plan: 5G only 0,5% of resources

The money allocated for the development of the 5G in the latest draft of Recovery Plan Italian just amounted to 0,5% of total resources. The Ansa agency writes it, which cites sources according to which the 11 billion destined for digital last summer would have halved (a 5/6 billion) in the version of the plan drawn up in December. Subsequently, the figure would drop further, to 3,3 billion, of which only 2,2 for ultra-broadband and 5G. So reasonably only one billion would be allocated for 5G. That means 10% of the amount that the Association of Telecommunications Operators (Asstel) considers necessary to terminate digital infrastructures that Italy needs. And this despite the fact that the same draft of the Recovery Plan reads that digitization is fundamental, as it enables the other strategic axes (ecological transition and social inclusion) which will have to guide the country's relaunch action.

To have a term of comparison, just think that the Germany has foreseen an investment of around 6 billion euros to guarantee, by 2025, the maximum development of 5G, particularly in inland and rural areas. Last December also the Spain presented a plan worth over 4 billion, again according to Asstel, Italy should allocate at least the same amount.

According to a survey conducted by Kantar for the Vodafone Institute on 15 people in 15 states, citizens perceive the urgency of taking action on the digitization front. Almost all respondents agree that the investment program should first target the healthcare sector, generate opportunities for small businesses affected by the pandemic and create new jobs (or at least save existing ones). However, among the crucial aspects for the recovery it emerges in particular digital: More than three in four believe that digital public services (80%), digital skills (78%) and broadband internet access (77%) are important to Europe's recovery. 75% lead the digitization of the PA (75%), then the skills (74%) and on the same level connectivity (73%).
