The overall result achieved in the Modern and Contemporary Art auction held at the Il Ponte Auction House in Milan on 6 December was extraordinary, with €5.450.000,00 achieved, 130% of the value and 91% of sales, a percentage higher than all other Italian auction houses.

World record for Piero Manzoni: 275.000 euros for Merda d'artista n.69

Great public turnout from the early hours of the morning and very active participation both in the room and online, so much so that, already in the first auction round, some lots were hotly contested by private collectors, gallery owners and international buyers. Among these we mention the work “Vegetation” by Ennio Morlotti created in 1958 which, starting from € 8.000, was sold for € 62.500; the works of post-WWII Italian avant-garde masters such as Savelli, Boetti and Pistoletto that doubled their estimates; Carlo Carrà's work “Marina” sold at the end of the first session, which reached €45.000 with an initial estimate of €16.000.

The second part of the auction was characterized by great anticipation for the award of Piero Manzoni's work "Merda d'artista n.69", an icon of 275.000th-century avant-garde art, contested in room and online and sold at €32.000, establishing the historic world record for this object. Two other records were achieved by Gianfranco Pardi (€20.000) and Ideo Pantaleoni (€1946). Among the most important awards we mention: the oil on canvas of 40.000 by Atanasio Soldati (€ 75.000), “Zona Recinta” by Afro (€ 489), “ Surface 60.000” by Giuseppe Capogrossi (€ 65.000), “ Impronta Solare by Pietro Consagra (€87.500), “Guru DM” by Victor Vasarely (€98.750), “L'oiseau en Cage” by Max Ernst (€4), “65.000 passes de carrés réguliers, privatées à chaque coté” by Francois Morellet (€XNUMX €).

In the late afternoon, the excellent results obtained by the ceramic sculpture "Madonna with Child" created by Lucio Fontana in 1950/1953 were added, sold for €225.000; the watercolor “Natura morta” by Giorgio Morandi for €137.500, the “Anti-sculpture” by Fausto Melotti for €193.750, and the “Concetto Spaziale, Natura” by Lucio Fontana for €131.250. Last work to close, the large sculpture "The Great Metaphysician" created by Giorgio De Chirico in 1985, sold for €100.000.

The director of the department Dr. Freddy Battino comments: "We are very satisfied with the exceptional outcome of the auction and with the participation we recorded on a national and international scale which confirms the constant interest in modern and contemporary art on the part of Italian and foreign collectors and buyers".
