Motor liability insurance, on average, costs less on electric or hybrid cars than on petrol or diesel ones. This is what emerges from a survey by SosTariffe.it, which compares the prices of six models divided into three market segments. Each couple is made up of a car on which theecotax and from one who can enjoy theecobonus and for all the models considered, the cost of the motor liability policy was calculated in three cities (Milan, Rome and Naples), taking as a reference a 40-year-old male policyholder in the first class of merit for at least two years.
MINI COUNTRYMAN AND FIAT 500X
The first couple is made up of the Fiat 500X (City Cross 2.0 MultiJet set-up, 29 euros) and the Mini Countryman Cooper SE, hybrid variant (39.3000 euros). An eco-tax of 1.100 euros is paid on the first vehicle, while the second can be purchased with an eco-bonus of 2.500 euros.
Despite the substantial difference in the price list, the average cost of a motor liability policy for the two models is very similar. Insuring a Mini Countryman Cooper SE costs an average of 1.099 Euros while the policy for a Fiat 500X costs an average of 1.013 Euros. However, in Milan, the RC Auto policy costs less for the hybrid than the Mini (729 Euros against 746 Euros) while in both Rome and Naples choosing diesel is still the most convenient solution, from the point of view of the insurance premium.
KIA NIRO AND JEEP COMPASS
The second pair includes the Jeep Compass (Business trim and 2.0 MutiJet II diesel engine) and the Kia Niro, the Korean brand's hybrid SUV. The two models cost practically the same amount (36.700 euros against 36.900), but the Kia Niro can count on the eco-bonus up to 2.500 euros, while on the Jeep Compass there is an Ecotax of 1.100 euros.
In this case, those who choose the hybrid can save on car insurance. In fact, the Kia Niro is, on average, cheaper than the Jeep Compass: 1.034 Euros against 1.059 Euros. In particular, the car policy for the Kia Niro is much cheaper both in Milan (more than 200 euros less) and in Rome (more than 250 euros less).
In Naples, the situation is completely reversed, favoring Compass, for which motor liability insurance is recorded on average which is almost 400 euros cheaper.
TESLA MODEL 3 AND MERCEDES-AMG A35
Finally, the third pair is formed by the electric Tesla Model 3 (in the Dual Motor Long Range version) and the compact Mercedes-AMG A35 4MATIC sports car with a 306 HP turbo petrol engine. The first costs 57 euros and can be purchased with an eco-bonus of up to 6 euros in the event of scrapping a used car, while the second costs 47 euros but is subject to an eco-tax of 1.100 euros.
On average, in fact, a Tesla Model 3 has a cost of the RC Auto policy of 867 euros, compared to almost 1.200 euros for a Mercedes-AMG A35. The difference is particularly marked in Rome: 583 euros against 1.017. In Naples the distance is about 230 euros.
