Rare Qatari jewels exhibited in Moscow

This exhibition, 11 July – 01 October 2018, highlights the diversity and breadth of the collection of Qatar museums, is a rare opportunity to view one of the finest specimens of pearl jewelry ever assembled. More than 100 pieces were curated by an internationally renowned pearl expert, Dr. Hubert Bari, from around the world including the Gulf, Europe and Asia. Marvel at Cartier masterpieces, a spectacular tiara worn by Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria and five royal tiaras from other European monarchies. Other highlights include ethnographic and tribal bead jewelry such as Tibet headdresses.

Another reason to exhibit this glorious past at the State Historical Museum is that Russia's rivers and lakes have also brought pearls in large quantities. These freshwater pearls, although not very well known, graced icons in churches, in the garments of horses and in fabrics for the imperial nobility. Pearl is the only naturally beautiful gemstone that is neither cut nor polished by man. This exhibition answers many of the questions surrounding these natural wonders of the sea and celebrates this incredible gem in all its glory.
