Someone explain to Monica Maggioni that she has been appointed President of Rai. It sounds strange to have to say this about a professional who, as has been repeated a thousand times, has made her entire career within the public service and who therefore, more than anyone else, should have a sense of impartiality in her DNA. And yet it is so: her participation in the Communion and Liberation meeting as moderator of two debates casts a shadow on her ability to distinguish roles and to understand the demands posed by her new status.
It is quite clear that the commitment had been made well before, when Maggioni was still director of a Rai information channel, but when the Company became President, everything had to be reset. It is a question of institutional sensitivity, of the ability to ensure everyone a profound sense of guarantee, to make it clear, right from the start, that the President of Rai places himself above, and not inside, political events to ensure a "correct" account of what is happening in the country.
Now that the Maggioni President has not been able to say no to the journalist Maggioni, how can she deny the requests of other organizations without fueling suspicions of discrimination? Yet it is quite clear that as soon as you understand what it means to preside over a large public service company, there will be very little time left for external outings. Her appointment to the presidency of Rai was greeted by a huge chorus of approval and someone even went so far as to associate her with Moratti, whose experience, however, ended with a devastating disavowal of her work by the shareholder and with his step back (from President to simple adviser).
We wish Maggioni all the best, but someone explain to her that she has been appointed President of Rai.
