Quirinale, Renzi: "I'll make a dry name"

Quirinal, the countdown has started in view of the first vote for the election of the new President of the Republic scheduled for Thursday afternoon. The kick-off of a week that promises to be crucial was the assembly of Pd deputies which opened this morning with the arrival of Matteo Renzi in Montecitorio. The strategy of the premier and secretary of the Democratic Party Matteo Renzi, secretary of the Democratic Party, is ready. “We do not offer a triad of names – he said according to what some of the deputies present reported – but a dry proposition. Everyone has the right to say and discuss names – he continued – because the President of the Republic is elected with all those who are in favor and not against someone”. The Democratic Party will vote blank ballot in the first three votes, finally underlined Renzi in completing the indications on the methodology that the majority party will adopt.

"I don't bet on your loyalty but on your intelligence - argued Renzi - we believe in the Democratic Party, a place for discussion". Anyone who does not share the name of the candidate for the presidency of the Republic "will have to say it openly". And again: "We do not offer a triad of names, but a dry proposal, everyone has the right to say and discuss names because the President of the Republic is elected with all those who are there and not against someone".

With Renzi's arrival at Montecitorio this morning, theAssembly of Deputies Pd. The meeting of dem senators will be held immediately afterwards. From tomorrow Renzi, accompanied by a Pd delegation, will meet the delegations of the other parties. In fact, the leader of the Democratic Party tries to compact his interests by launching a call for unity. “The vote for the election of the President of the Republic – the premier himself underlined before concluding – is not a referendum on Matteo Renzi.

However, Renzi's appeal for unity risks colliding with the heated opposition between the dem, even if the minority leaders are moving cautiously on the match for the Quirinale and for the moment share the intention of finding a unified candidate.

For Stefano Fassina, for example, it is important that “the Democratic Party manages to pass the test of the Quirinale united and the approach of looking for a candidate against is wrong. Maximum sharing must be sought and in this case we must seek dialogue with Fi”. Minority deputy Davide Zoggia also spoke at the meeting, according to whom "it is a mistake to give up on finding a large unity" to elect the head of state only on the fourth vote also because "by Saturday there could be fibrillation in all departed". With a letter sent to the secretariat of the Democratic Party, Pippo Civati instead nominated Romano Prodi for the presidency of the Republic. According to what has been learned, in the letter the deputy dem would propose to start again from the name that the Democratic Party had nominated in 2013.

So one opens crucial week for internal politics, all dominated by the vote for the Quirinale. Renzi and the Democratic Party will not be able to ignore the indications of the “moderate block”, assures the group leader of Fi in the Senate, Paolo Romani. But what is causing discussion among the Azzurri is the umpteenth attempt by Raffaele Fitto, who warns Silvio Berlusconi against once again showing "blind obedience" to Renzi and invokes for the Quirinale "autonomous and important personality international".

Between Wednesday and Thursday morning the meeting of the big Pd voters will be held with the announcement of the name of the democratic candidate. In the afternoon at 15 the first vote for the Quirinale will begin.
