Quirinale, Renzi: "We will announce the Pd candidate on January 28"

The head of state is elected "together with everyone", but "vetoes are not acceptable, not even among us", said the Premier-secretary during the Party Direction.

Quirinale, Renzi: "We will announce the Pd candidate on January 28"

The name proposed by the Democratic Party as Giorgio Napolitano's successor at the Quirinale will be formalized the day before the first vote, i.e. January 28. This is the proposal launched today by the premier and secretary Matteo Renzi, speaking at the national leadership of the Party.

"We will vote on Thursday 29 at 15 pm - Renzi recalled - and I believe it is appropriate that this Directorate considers itself convened on a permanent basis, to ensure that at any time the group leaders, the secretary and the delegation of the Democratic Party can be a guest of the groups to study, discuss, dialogue at any time, only to then imagine that in the 24 hours preceding the first vote we will have to formalize the Pd proposal by bringing together the groups and the big voters".

This appointment must be "preceded by a round of meetings with the other party parties", added Renzi, according to which the Dem delegation will be made up of "the secretary, two group leaders, deputy secretaries and the president".

“It will be important for us to start from a fact… The last time it didn't go well, first of all a push against Napolitano. Today the Democratic Party - continued the secretary - is called to a responsibility with respect to which either we are in a position to do what is necessary or we would be the ones who will be singled out as the culprits, rightly so ".

The head of state is elected "together with everyone", but "vetoes are not acceptable - concluded Renzi -. Our government allies will be with us in this challenge and they will be the first people with whom we will have the opportunity to talk. No irony or demagoguery, the President of the Republic tries to involve everyone. And if someone is called out, we'll do without him, no one has the right to veto, not even between us. We need not to choose our player but everyone's referee, institutional solidity will be an element of absolute importance”.
