Quirinale irritated by rumors about the presumed resignation of Governor Visco

Deep irritation of the Presidency of the Republic for the press indiscretions on the intervention of the Head of State on the Governor of the Bank of Italy, Ignazio Visco, to block his prsemntata intention to resign after the appointment of the Canton as arbitrator in the case of betrayed savings - Visco shuts down any controversy with the Government and with the Canton

Quirinale irritated by rumors about the presumed resignation of Governor Visco

The publication of alleged indiscretions in Turin's "La Stampa" according to which the Governor of the Bank of Italy went to the Head of State, Sergio Mattarella, to protest against the assignment of the role of arbitrator to the Quirinale caused deep irritation in examining the cases of savers betrayed by the 4 banks in crisis and would have expressed his willingness to resign.

The Quirinale denies both the reasons for the meeting between Mattarella and Visco, considered routine, and the substance of the conversation, denying that the Governor has ever expressed his intention to resign in protest against the Government's moves.

This version is corroborated by an extensive interview with "La Repubblica" by the Governor himself, in which the number one of the Bank of Italy claims that "the visit to the Quirinale had been planned for some time", that collaboration with the Government will continue " with a spirit of service and institutional correctness" and that "there was absolutely no controversy over the decision to entrust the arbitrations to the Authority chaired by Raffaele Cantone, for whom my esteem is known".
