Quirinale: Draghi stops rumors about his candidacy: "In the ECB until 2019"

“I don't want to be a politician and my mandate as president of the ECB will last until 2019”. With this statement during an interview with the German newspaper 'Handelsblatt' the president of the European Central Bank Mario Draghi has ruled out the possibility of entering the race for the succession of Giorgio Napolitano.

After the announcement of Napolitano about its upcoming resignation as head of state, in the last week in Germany there have been persistent rumors about a possible 'move' of the number 1 of the ECB Mario Draghi from the modern Eurotower in Frankfurt to the historic palaces of the Quirinale. The German press went wild hypothesizing Draghi as the new President of the Republic and the current number 1 of the Bundesbank Jens Weidman as Draghi's successor at the helm of the ECB.
