The French group PSA has reached an agreement with General Motors for the acquisition of the Opel division of the US automaker. This was reported by two sources close to the dossier to the Reuters agency. The board of directors of PSA, which makes Peugeot and Citroën cars, has approved the deal and the announcement is expected to be made on Monday, one of the sources said. Green light also from the supervisory board
Even the French newspaper Les Echos wrote that the French automotive group held an extraordinary board of directors this afternoon to give its green light to the purchase of Opel. PSA and Opel spokesmen declined to comment.
General Motors, with 9,57 million vehicles sold in 2016, is the third largest automaker in the world (after Toyota and Volkswagen). The giant has already withdrawn the Chevrolet brand from the European market; by selling Opel, it would completely stop presiding over the Old Continent.
