Prysmian launches Karona Overblow, a new 5G system

Prysmian has launched the Karona Overblow System, a solution that allows new fiber optic cables to be installed in the network of pre-existing ducts containing previously installed cables.

“Today more than ever, the transfer of data is an essential part of modern life – reads the note published by the company – consequently it is of fundamental importance to have a solid digital infrastructure. Existing networks are already saturated with legacy cables, but installing additional ducts can be costly and time consuming.” To overcome this problem, Prysmian has therefore launched the Karona Overblow system which includes blown cables, installation equipment, connectivity and complete training.

The aim is to allow additional cables to be installed in a conduit, reaching up to a kilometer in distance when using the Point to Point method, and going even further when using center blowing techniques.

“Ultra-fast and innovative solutions are required in view of the emerging next-generation technologies for the future 5G society, so as to transfer ever greater amounts of data simultaneously, even in less suitable and industrialized areas” says Toni Bosch, Vice President Telecom Solutions of Prysmian Group. “With this project, Prysmian continues to demonstrate itself as a global manufacturer that relies on its skills and capabilities to respond to the ever-increasing technological challenges that its customers have to face”.
