Prysmian, in the pocket a 200 million order in the North Sea

Two hundred million euros to connect wind farms on the North Sea to the northern coast of Germany. This is the new assignment obtained by Prysmian, a company active in the sector of cables and systems for the transport of energy and for telecommunications. The order comes from TenneT, operator of the Dutch and German electricity grids, and is part of the HelWin2 project.

The Italian company "will take care of the supply, installation and testing of the submarine and terrestrial cable system - reads a note - as part of a broader agreement worth a total of over 600 million euros signed by the consortium" made up of Prysmian and Siemens Energy.

“This success reconfirms the group's key role in the German Government's new energy policies and it is the most important program for the development of renewable energy in Europe – commented Fabio Romeo, Energy Business Director of Prysmian Group -. Prysmian is ready to provide know-how and cutting-edge technologies to face the challenges deriving from the decision to bring forward the decommissioning of nuclear plants to 2022 compared to the planned 2034 and from the increase in the production of energy from renewable sources (with a current of 10 GW from offshore wind) by 2020”.

The new plant will connect the Amrum Bank West offshore wind farm, which is 55 km from the coast, to the mainland. The goal is to introduce energy from renewable sources into the German electricity grid. Testing and commissioning of the connection is expected in 2015.
